Are you working on sustainability in a student council, or would you like to do so in the second half of this year? Let’s meet up!
The year is well under way. You’ve gotten to know your university, and developed ideas to make it more sustainable. Perhaps, you’ve even submitted initiatives already! This is the perfect time to meet up with fellow council members from other universities. Listen to what others have been doing and learn about things that you could implement at your own university. Or present your own work so that it can have even more impact.
We’ll discuss five topics. Note that an extra part has been added before the original program, following a suggestion from the attendants.
18:00 – 19:00 Global Adaption Action Summit
In October, a UN Climate Summit will be held in Amsterdam. During this session, we will brainstorm about organising something at this summit.
Since this session starts early, we will prepare a simple meal for those who attend.
19:00 – 20:00 Parallel Sessions 1 & 2
In these sessions, we will share best-practices and learn from each other.
1. Operations: Achieve a zero footprint for campus operations.
This session will be introduced and lead by Britt Dagstra and Selma den Hartog. They are board members from Studenten voor Morgen. This is a national network for sustainable student organisations. Read more here.
2. Community: Empower students and staff to act on sustainability in their personal life.
This session will be introduced and lead by Nila Patty. Nila is renown for her Zero Waste Lifestyle. Watch her Ted Talk here.
20:00 – 21:00 Parallel Sessions 3 & 4
In these sessions, we will share our best-practices and learn from each other.
3. Education: Empower students for a sustainable career
This session will be introduced and lead by Fabian Engelsman. He’s a student council member from Radboud University and would like to set up a coalition of the willing for sustainability in education.
4. Research: Prevent greenwashing and guarantee the integrity of researchers
Discussion leader to be announced.
The event will be held at Milieucentrum Utrecht (Oudegracht 60).
This is at walking distance from Utrecht Central Station.
This event will be held in English, unless all participants are Dutch-speaking.
